Top 10 Sleeper First BasemenJames Loney, Los Angeles Dodgers
This kid has really impressed me. This past year he had an impressive .331 BA and a respectable 15 home runs with only 96 games. As the start of the season draws closer you can expect everyone to catch on to this guy and could be a starting 1b in some of the big leagues. With a full season under his belt you can expect above 30 home runs, 100+ RBI's and around a .300 average. As a young player Loney has the potential, and appears to be able to develop into a good power hitter. Todd Helton, Colorado
Helton will not produce the home run and RBI numbers we have seen in the past. However his .320 average and 91 RBI's of last year make him a solid choice at first base that will produce solid numbers for you over the season. Helton was able to command the plate and finish second in the league with a .434 on-base percentage, a number that will guarantee runs in hitter friendly Coors Field. Paul Konerko, Chicago White Sox
This guy is getting older and it has showed in his plate presence, only hitting .258. However what he lacks in consistency he can, and has, provided impressive power numbers. Last year Konerko piled up 31 dingers with 90 RBI's. His ability to hit the home run ball will make him a valuable asset to any team and shows the ability to certainly be a starter. Recent rumors have circulated about him going to the Angles. If this happens it will only make his stock more valuable in that potent lineup. Adam LaRoche, Pittsburgh
Still is young enough to have the potential for something big. He has fallen off this past year, ending the season with a .272 average, 21 homeruns and 88 RBI's, but these numbers should certainly be brought up. Hitting at the heart of the order in front of Jason Bay, a top hitting outfielder will certainly help Adam bring his numbers up and get the support to score runs. Laroche will not be drafted right away to start at 1b but if there are injuries or he starts the season strong watch out for people to pick him up right away. Kevin Youkilis, Boston
Youkilis is one of those players that is a good player in his own right but being on the Red Sox provides that extra sense of security and the feeling that even if he slumps he should still score. Well you are correct and especially the way draws walks his run totals should run up towards the 100's again this year. Although he had a noticeably bad second half of the season last year his post season play and over all .288 averages provide confidence that he will find his swing again and give quality numbers. In '07 hitting 16 home runs and 83 RBI's should encourage owners that he can top 20 home runs this season. Carlos Delgado, New York Mets
The big news coming out of the New York Mets locker room recently is the addition of Johan Santana, however the play of Carlos Delgado could be just as influential. Being listed as the only first basemen on the depth chart his job security is not in question. His health however is, after beginning last season just out of surgery this year will be no different nursing a broken hand. However if last year's production of 24 home runs, 87 RBI's is the lowest production of your career then it cannot be too bad, right? Age and health here is the big question and should be watched, while he is on your bench waiting to start.
