- Streamer of the Day - Jorge De La Rosa - Owned in 13% of Yahoo! Leagues
It is always a good idea to stream a starting pitcher backed by one of the hottest offenses in baseball and that is exactly what fantasy owners will be getting with Jorge De La Rosa today. The Rockies left-hander has pitched extremely well this season, going 2-1 with a 2.81 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 22.1 innings of work. De La Rosa owns a 7-3 record with a 2.23 ERA in 13 career starts against the Arizona Diamondbacks and is a rock solid streaming option going up against Trevor Cahill (0-3, 3.60 ERA) today.
Yesterday's Streamer of the Day: Wandy Rodriguez - ND 5.2 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 2 BB and 5 K
2013 Streamer Quality Start Record: 15-5
Friday's Streamer of the Day - Tom Milone - Owned in 54% of Yahoo! Leagues
What Happened Last Night: If you stopped me on the street today and told me that the entire fate of the earth depended on one baseball game tonight and I only get to one pitcher, I would go with Yu Darvish. You can make the case for Felix Hernandez, Justin Verlander, Clayton Kershaw or another pitcher, but in my opinion, Darvish is the best pitcher in baseball right now and certainly looked like it last night, tossing six shutout innings against the Los Angeles Angels. Darvish gave up just three hits (all singles), issued just two walks and struck out 11. Even when the Angels made contact, it resulted in weak groundballs and they did not get a runner to second base against Darvish, who was downright dominant and left with an 11-run lead. If Darvish can continue to pitch the way he did last night, he will be at the front of the A.L. Cy Young discussion at the end of the season.
Jon Lester wasn't as dominant against the Oakland Athletics as he had been in his first four starts, but lasted long enough to pick up the win, improving to 4-0 overall this season. Lester surrendered his first home run of the year and gave up three runs on six hits while issuing a season-high six walks to go along with five strikeouts. It wasn't pretty, but Lester got the job done. The same could be said for Detroit's Max Scherzer, who gave up five runs on seven innings, but held on just long enough to pick up a win improving to 2-0 this season.
Today's Lineup Card: Clay Buchholz, Cliff Lee, Justin Verlander, Gio Gonzalez, Chris Sale and James Shields are all legitimate fantasy acres slated to pitch today. Outside of the no-doubt options, there are plenty of quality mid-tier pitchers and deeper streaming options for fantasy owners today.
It's a true tossup between Hiroki Kuroda and Mark Buehrle in Toronto today. These two pitchers went head-to-head in their last starts on April 20th and both are solid fantasy options, I would give Kuroda the slight edge because Buehrle owns a career 6.03 ERA against the Yankees, but both veterans tossed seven strong innings in this very same matchup last Saturday.
Pittsburgh's James McDonald rebounded with six solid innings in his last start against the red-hot Atlanta Braves but will have a much tougher matchup against Cliff Lee today. McDonald is 1-2 with a 5.73 ERA in four career starts against the Phillies, so I would stay away from McDonald today, not a ton of upside in this particular matchup.
An intriguing under the radar streamer for fantasy owners today is Garrett Richards of the Los Angeles Angels. Richards was brilliant in his last start, pitching eight shutout innings while giving up just two hits and striking out eight against Detroit. Richards is filling in for Jered Weaver in the Angels rotation and the Halos are desperate for a quality start after wearing out their bullpen the last two nights against Texas. Richards is the beneficiary of a tasty matchup against the Seattle Mariners and struggling rookie Brandon Maurer (1-3, 7.45 ERA).
Texas Rangers rookie Nick Tepesch was forced to leave his last start early after taking a ball off the wrist but is reportedly good to go tonight in a favorable matchup against the Minnesota Twins. I would rather roll the dice on De La Rosa or Richards, but Tepesch is another solid option for fantasy owners looking to stream today.
