- Streamer of the Day - Ted Lilly - Owned in 9% of Yahoo! Leagues
Lilly was solid in his 2013 debut against the New York Mets on the road last week and is a quality streamer, widely available on the free agent wire in over 90 percent of leagues today. Lilly has a tough matchup against the Colorado Rockies, who have cooled off considerably after a 13-4 start by dropping six of their last eight games, but has had a great deal of success against the Rockies (10-2 with a 3.92 ERA) in his lengthy career and the crafty southpaw will be at home in the spacious confines of Dodger Stadium.
2013 Streamer Quality Start Record: 16-5
Saturday's Streamer of the Day - Kevin Slowey - Owned in 5% of Yahoo! Leagues
Today's Lineup Card: Experience and a much longer track record of success are the reason that Adam Wainwright and Max Scherzer rank ahead of Matt Harvey in today's FFToolbox starting pitcher rankings. I have watched Harvey pitch several times this season and the thing that impresses me the most is his pinpoint command and ability to keep hitters off balance by mixing pitches, speeds and locations. There may not be a better pitcher in the game right now than Harvey, but eventually the league will make adjustments, it's unrealistic to expect him to pitch this well for an entire season. Regardless, the top three along with Stephen Strasburg, Mat Latos and Matt Cain are all surefire starts for fantasy owners today.
Jeff Samardzija went seven strong on the road against Cincinnati in his last start, rebounding from a poor outing against Milwaukee on April 19th and should be a solid fantasy option today taking on the San Diego Padres. Samardzija is 2-1 with a 2.20 ERA in two career starts against the Padres.
You don't need me to tell you to start Andy Pettitte against the Houston Astros today right? In case you forgot, Jose Fernandez struck out eight over five innings in his first career start against the New York Mets earlier this month, but don't count on him for a win today going head-to-head against Harvey.
Yovani Gallardo has righted the ship after a rocky first couple of weeks and if history is any indication, he should have no trouble today against the Pittsburgh Pirates, who he is 9-2 with a 2.59 ERA in 14 career starts against. His opponent Wandy Rodriguez is quietly putting together an impressive 2013 campaign but is just 8-9 with a 3.80 ERA in 23 career starts against the Brewers.
Take a quick look at the surface stats (wins, ERA, WHIP) for anyone outside the top 15 in today's FFToolbox starting pitcher rankings and you will find that there is hardly a quality option worthy of fantasy consideration, especially since all of those pitchers are on the road with the exception of Julio Teheran and Joe Saunders. I would not consider any of the following pitchers in my fantasy lineup today: Tommy Hanson, Clayton Richard, Zach Britton, Lucas Harrell, Ubaldo Jimenez, Tyler Chatwood, Mike Pelfrey, Teheran and Saunders.
