Bowl Championship Series Week Two Standings
Week two of the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) Standings is in the book and no big surprises; shake off the Standings as the top part remains almost intact. Once again the defending national champions, the Florida Gators, hold the number one position over Alabama. Both teams struggled to beat their unranked foes last Saturday. Texas, which comes off an impressive showing versus Missouri remains number three. The big mover of the week was Iowa which jumped from sixth to four following yet another road win (Michigan State). Fifth in the list is USC which defeated a good Oregon State team last weekend.
The fun beings with the bottom part of the top 10. TCU, fresh off their demolishing of BYU, jumped above Boise State in the battle for claiming a BCS berth for a non-automatic conference team. The swap of places this early in the BCS standings probably means that if both teams finish up undefeated, the Horned Frogs will most likely get the coveted bid.
One team is making their move early. Georgia Tech looked to be the class of the second tier. The Paul Johnson squad had a good, solid win on Saturday and is a few breaks away from moving even higher. Cincinnati, the class of the Big East, took a stumble bouncing from #5 to #8. LSU remains at nine while Oregon moved up a notch following Miami's loss.
Three new teams joined in the BCS this week: Notre Dame, California and Ole Miss. All three were ranked in the AP Poll early in the season. The biggest winner of the week was Pitt. The Panthers impressed the computers by gaining five slots -- the biggest jump so far -- on the rest of the field.
