Ovr Pick Franchise Selection Pos. Team Age Exp.
1 1.01 KFFL.com Adrian Peterson RB MIN 24 2
While Maurice Jones-Drew and Matt Forte were tempting with the top selection, Peterson catches just enough passes to build on his already beefy ground game. There were too many question marks with my other two choices to let the NFL's best back slip, even in a PPR setup. Even if Brett Favre comes to Minny, he'll be second fiddle to "AD."
2 1.02 FFToday.com Maurice Jones-Drew RB JAX 24 3
Pocket Hercules, come on down to kick off this mock draft for Team FF Today. I'm more than happy with either the #1 or #2 spot this year, as we see a drop-off after MJD and AP as the top tier RB this season. MJD is actually projected #1 for us in this scoring system thanks mainly to a projected 54 receptions versus only 19 for AP. The 54 may be slightly conservative, considering he earned 36 in just the final 8 games of 2008 and David Garrard lost every WR he had any rapport with.
3 1.03 FantasySharks.com Matt Forte RB CHI 23 1
In a PPR league I look for RB's that catch the ball as their value goes way up. Forte is one of those guys that can do it all and with defenses having to respect Cutler, things will open up even more for Forte.
4 1.04 FFLibrarian.com Michael Turner RB ATL 27 5
5 1.05 FFToolbox.com Chris Johnson RB TEN 24 1
This was really a 50-50 call with Steven Jackson and even though the runninメ Ram - if healthy - has nearly all the backfield touches to himself, I went the uber-shifty Johnson. No doubt, LenDale White eating up goal line carries hurts, but he still scored what felt like a rather casual 10 touchdowns his rookie year. No sophomore slump here; barring major issues at QB, look for Johnson to improve upon his 43 receptions and 1,488 yards from scrimmage.
6 1.06 Rotoworld.com Steven Jackson RB STL 26 5
Best talent available.
7 1.07 TheHuddle.com Larry Fitzgerald WR ARI 26 5
With Jackson going right before my pick, there's no back left who stands out. So I'll take the best receiver on the board and see what comes back my way in Round 2.
8 1.08 FantasyFootballTrader.com Ladainian Tomlinson RB SD 30 8
LaDainian wanted me to pass along that THIS was the best talent available.
9 1.09 FansFantasyFootball.com Andre Johnson WR HOU 28 6
AJ was the number one receiver in this format last year happily take him at 9
10 1.10 CBSSports.com Steve Slaton RB HOU 23 1
We all know the draft class was great for running backs last year, and Slaton was second-best only to Matt Forte. He will get all the touches in a great offense, and he's the best value on the board at this spot.
11 1.11 RapidDraft.com Randy Moss WR NE 32 11
I'll be happy with the average of his past two seasons.
12 1.12 ThunderingBlurb.com DeAngelo Williams RB CAR 26 3
I may have my doubts about Williams repeating last year's numbers but that doesn't mean 1) I don;t believe he will be a top 10 back or 2) I'm not pleased to get him at 12. Great value here in my opinion. I had planned a particular strategy but I'm changing on the fly and grabbing value - which is always important.
13 2.01 ThunderingBlurb.com Calvin Johnson WR DET 24 2
Normally I don't even think twice goign with Megatron here - but the PPR aspect worries me. We all saw what CJ could do with just a pass - but 'just a pass' is risky. Still I think with Pettigrew at TE, a few decent though not wondrous WRS around him, Calvin Johnson could see enough action. It's riskier than it appears at first, but CJ has too much upside to ignore.
14 2.02 RapidDraft.com Frank Gore RB SF 26 4
How do people keep leaving this guy on the board until the second round of PPR drafts (says one of the guys who let him go to the second round this time). Gore is the clear centerpiece in San Fran and will be a top five back in this system.
15 2.03 CBSSports.com Reggie Wayne WR IND 31 8
I'm thrilled to have Peyton Manning's No. 1 target as my No. 1 WR.
16 2.04 FansFantasyFootball.com Brian Westbrook RB PHI 30 7
In a ppr league with Philly having better receivers...I will take the injury risk and grab Westbrook
17 2.05 FantasyFootballTrader.com Greg Jennings WR GB 26 3
Catches/yardage both climbed substantially in second and third seasons. Turning 26 just after the season starts, Greg Jennings is aging like a fine wine and just now enters the money years. Big run on #1 WR's before I pick again and little projected difference between the next 9 RB's on my board.
18 2.06 TheHuddle.com Clinton Portis RB WAS 28 7
Portis was one of the RBs I considered in the first round before ultimately going with a wideout. That he's here in R2 speaks to the depth of the RBs this yearラand the logic behind grabbing an elite WR in R1.
19 2.07 Rotoworld.com Marion Barber RB DAL 26 4
Barber has been dropping in all the mocks I've done so far. Is this talk of Felix Jones starting over him the reason? Jones is a kick returner who couldn't make it through seven games last year. Barber is a horse. I'll take him at 2.7 all day like O.J.
20 2.08 FFToolbox.com Roddy White WR ATL 28 4
White is a top receiver who gets half the hype of his fellow #1 targets. However, I essentially took White because I have more faith in his QB (Matt Ryan) over the course of a full season than I do in the erratic (Jake Delhomme) and oft-injured (Kurt Warner) options throwing at comparable receivers Steve Smith and Anquan Boldin.
21 2.09 FFLibrarian.com Steve Smith WR CAR 30 7
I'm torn between shoring up my RBs by grabbing one of the last solid RBs on the board - or making sure I have a WR1. Receiver wins with Steve Smith still available. Love the way he played in the postseason in particular and he has the potential for a high number of receptions and yards - too good to pass up.
22 2.10 FantasySharks.com Drew Brees QB NO 30 8
What's not to like about 5,000 yards and 35+ TD's? I don't usually like taking QB's early but this year I like getting Brees or Brady and don't mind paying to get them.
23 2.11 FFToday.com Marques Colston WR NO 26 3
Back at the 2.07 I pre-selected Colston, Roddy White, Steve Smith, Anquan Boldin and Marion Barber. Thankfully Colston got here as he, White and Smith were the last of my tier 2 WR group. Colston missed 5 games last year but his 2nd half was spectacular, a 42-678-5 line in 8 games, and of course he benefits from working with the reigning top QB in fantasy football. Not a lot to worry about with Colston as my WR1.
24 2.12 KFFL.com Brandon Jacobs RB NYG 27 4
I know this is PPR, and I know I took AD with my first selection, but Jacobs presents way too much value at the 24th pick. He's a touchdown machine, and the Giants will continue to lean on him, especially if Andre Brown doesn't fill Derrick Ward's role to full capacity. Yes, there's injury risk, but the other option I considered has similar drawbacks.
25 3.01 KFFL.com Anquan Boldin WR ARI 29 6
The physically gifted Boldin will make an impact wherever he suits up in 2009. Even if Cards quarterback Kurt Warner goes down with an injury or old age, 'Zona's second-fiddle receiver will remain a first fantasy option; the transition at OC shouldn't deter this team much.
26 3.02 FFToday.com Ronnie Brown RB MIA 27 4
Ronnie Brown is certainly getting more love since we kicked off the start of fantasy football season in early June. That gets me worried when the value is lost on a player because everyone is hyping him up as a value play. But as an early 3rd round pick, and RB2, I'm still buying. Things are aligning nicely for Brown - youth/experience, length of time since injury, increased opportunity, system - and the talent is certainly there for a player who had nearly 1,000 combined yards through his first 7 games of 2007 prior to the ACL injury.
27 3.03 FantasySharks.com Reggie Bush RB NO 24 3
In a PPR league Bush has the potential to put a lot of points on the board. This continues my streak of drafting all players with the same bye week. Now to find a WR with a Week 5 Bye.
28 3.04 FFLibrarian.com Wes Welker WR NE 28 5
FFSharks just made this decision very easy for me since I was debating between Bush and Welker. Welker is a reception machine and with Brady back and feeling good, I expect Welker to have another 100+ reception year.
29 3.05 FFToolbox.com Tom Brady QB NE 32 8
Not seeing much of difference with the next several running backs options and I will miss out on a tier of either WR or QB depending on which direction I go. I'm not a big fan of taking a QB this early, but since I already have a receiver...its Brady time! Looking for big things out of Gisele Bundchen's hubby and while I doubt he gets 50 passing TDs, it will be fun watching him try.
30 3.06 Rotoworld.com Dwayne Bowe WR KC 25 2
A serious candidate to lead the NFL in receptions. The Chiefs will likely throw 550 times this season and Bowe should see at least 200 targets. He has league-winning potential in this PPR format.
31 3.07 TheHuddle.com T.J. Houshmandzadeh WR SEA 32 8
There's still a handful of backs on the board that I like, but not much as far as receivers go. Housh should be a PPR deity in Seattle's WCO, so I'll get my WR2 before the pickings get too slim.
32 3.08 FantasyFootballTrader.com Kevin Smith RB DET 22 1
If his December touches were a trend, he's a top 10 back. Regardless, I compare Smith favorably to the majority of #2 RB's.
33 3.09 FansFantasyFootball.com Brandon Marshall WR DEN 25 3
Thought about Mr. Manning here as 3rd round is nice value, but it would go against everything I believe in to take a QB this high...so I will pair up AJ with Brandon Marshall...say a prayer he does not get suspended this year and take his 100 catch average along for the ride...
34 3.10 CBSSports.com Terrell Owens WR BUF 35 13
He's not great in PPR leagues, especially now in Buffalo, but he'll still get his share of yards and touchdowns. He's as good a No. 2 Fantasy WR as you'll find.
35 3.11 RapidDraft.com Pierre Thomas RB NO 24 2
He was simply a monster fantasy back down the stretch last season, particularly in PPR formats. So, rather than explain why I'm taking Thomas here, I'll merely say thanks for letting me.
36 3.12 ThunderingBlurb.com Eddie Royal WR DEN 23 1
even with the loss of Cutler, even with the uncertainty of the Marshall plan I still like the second year WR. I think he'll get a ton of looks from Orton and I believe he will find himself the beneficiery of a solid (and healthy?)run game. If Marshall stops outing, so much the better. A solid #2.
37 4.01 ThunderingBlurb.com Knowshon Moreno RB DEN 22 R
Moreno does carry risk even in the 4th round. How will DENRB look - like old DEN RBBC? Like NE RBBC? Or will we see a lot of Moreno who can do so many things well, including catch the ball? I am banking on enough use of him by McDaniels to warrant a #2 RB spot. Other backs in this area also have questions and I like Moreno's upside the best. Also considered QB, but tend to wait a little for value later.
38 4.02 RapidDraft.com Peyton Manning QB IND 33 11
No way am I letting Peyton get away here, especially in a league where I only have to start two receivers and no flex. About as safe a pick as one can find.
39 4.03 CBSSports.com Darren McFadden RB OAK 22 1
Gotta love the addition of Lorenzo Neal and that he should be healthy following last year's toe problems.
40 4.04 FansFantasyFootball.com Jason Witten TE DAL 27 6
Well CBS stole my RB 2 (sigh)...so I will change directions and go with the flow and grab Witten who figures to be the number one option all year long in Dallas...and Romo's favorite Target...will target some cheaper RB options now. Not a big fan of taking TE's this high but Witten is the exception in round 4.
41 4.05 FantasyFootballTrader.com Antonio Gates TE SD 29 6
Gradual slopes now @ RB/WR. I'm a big believer in rostering stud TE's.
42 4.06 TheHuddle.com Joseph Addai RB IND 26 3
A 2008 slump and Indy drafting a running back in the first round have torpedoed Addai's value. What I should do is let him slide and see if anyone else views him as a value here, but the potential production is too much to pass up.
43 4.07 Rotoworld.com Aaron Rodgers QB GB 25 4
Pick made based on Pre-Draft List
44 4.08 FFToolbox.com Marshawn Lynch RB BUF 23 2
We all know the drill here: Lynch is a top 10-15 RB who is falling because of the three-game suspension. I guess you have take a chance somewhere and as long as I get sufficient backfield depth, I think taking Lynch here is a worthy roll of the dice.
45 4.09 FFLibrarian.com Ryan Grant RB GB 26 3
Grant finished 2008 with just over 1200 yards (9th most), has remained healthy over the offseason, and has the luxury of facing Detroit twice a year. I'll take that.
46 4.10 FantasySharks.com Braylon Edwards WR NYJ 26 4
A contract year, familiarity with the QB's and driven to show 2007 was more the norm than the fluke, Edwards has a decent shot at rebounding. The Browns will be throwing the ball and he'll be the main target.
47 4.11 FFToday.com Tony Gonzalez TE ATL 33 12
Some really good fantasy players were drafted prior to this pick (Witten, Gates, Rodgers, Grant), but it still left me with a tough decision at this pick between a top QB like Phillip Rivers, an excellent WR2 such as Chad Ochocinco or Vincent Jackson or the last of the top tier TE. I went with the TE, which is a position you can really make a difference at in a PPR scoring league. It is going to be odd seeing Gonzo in a Falcons uniform, but Matt Ryan looks like the real deal and should learn quickly to use his new TE early and often so we still end up with a typical, Tony Gonzalez year.
48 4.12 KFFL.com Chad Ochocinco WR CIN 31 8
Last year we saw a fluky stats dropoff for 85; Ryan Fitzpatrick limited what the former Johnson could do. A healthy Carson Palmer should help Ocho approach 90 catches again. I like the fire my No. 2 wideout is showing in his trash-talk tweets.
49 5.01 KFFL.com Philip Rivers QB SD 27 5
Loving the powerful Powder Blue offense: a healthy LT, a healthy Gates and the emerging Vincent Jackson, with Darren Sproles and Chris Chambers sprinkled in. The gritty Rivers has mastered Norv Turner's downfield attack and should approach 30 scoring passes once again.
50 5.02 FFToday.com Donovan McNabb QB PHI 33 10
I was really hoping for Rivers here, and in fact KFFL grabbed 2 of the guys I was considering at the last pick. If I had a re-do, I probably take Rivers at 4.11 and see if Gonzalez would slide into the 5th round. Still, that is not a knock on McNabb, who when healthy is a consistent top QB, especially with the Eagles propensity (or necessity) to throw the ball into the end zone rather than run it. The potential problem is that "when healthy" caveat. McNabb didn't miss any games last year due to injury for the first time since 2004.
