2012 Team Outlook: Tennessee
TE Taylor Thompson, TEN - Dynasty Only
The Titans selected SMU TE Taylor Thompson with the No. 145 overall pick in the 2012 draft. Thompson was a two-time All-Conference USA selection as a defensive end, but is moving to TE. At 6'6/259 with a 4.56 40-yard dash and a 37-inch vertical, Thompson's measurables make him an intriguing option in deeper dynasty leagues. Starting TE Jared Cook is in the final year of his contract.
PK Rob Bironas, TEN - Solid/Safe Pick
Bironas enters his 8th NFL season as one of the more accurate kickers in the league. He has topped 90% accuracy in each of the last two seasons and was 6 for 7 on his 50+ yard attempts in 2011. Consider Bironas a top 10 fantasy kicker for 2012 (he finished last season as the 9th rated fantasy kicker).
UPDATE: Bironas announced plans to kick into his 40's and will enter 2012 in a contract year.
Tennessee Defense - Quality Backup
This unit finished 19th in fantasy production in 2011 and will have to deal with the loss of their best CB Cortland Finnegan (signed with St Louis). Tennessee generated just 28 sacks last season, but did sign DE Kamerion Wimbley (16 sacks in last two years). They spent a 2nd round pick on OLB Zach Brown (North Carolina) and 3rd rounder on DT Mike Martin (Michigan) - both players could start in their rookie season. The Titans boast one of the better special-teams units (five touchdowns in past two years), but their overall DEF/ST unit remains a matchup play at best in 12-14 team leagues.
