This recommendation is a touch tricky in that not long ago it appeared the Eagles had settled on Brent Celek as the team's blocking tight end. However, late in camp the new coaching staff realized the veteran had pass-catching skills and buzz began about an expanded role. Perfect timing considering Philadelphia opens the year against a Redskins defense that surrendered the most points to fantasy tight ends last season. Over his last four games against Washington, Celek has two touchdowns while averaging 52 yards on 4.5 receptions. Just about everything involving the Philly offense not with LeSean McCoy involves some kind of leap of faith in the season opener. Considering the limited TE options this season outside of the top 4-5 players, this is a good spot to take on. Celek is TE14 on FFToolbox's rankings.

Whether because of name recognition or a hunch, owners may have drafted Gates as a starter. Assuming they also selected another TE for rotation purposes, they might be debating sitting the aging Charger because of the matchup versus Houston's formidable defense. We're here to say don't do that. By most reports, Gates had a rather solid training camp. As we all know, the Chargers have issues at receiver. What those using FFToolbox's Matchup Analyzer can tell you is that last season the Texans surrendered the fourth most points to fantasy tight ends. We're not expecting TE1 production throughout the season, but considering the softness of the position and Gates' historical numbers, taking a shot Week 1 isn't a bad way to go.
