Week 2: Busts of the Week
I guess this article needs to define a 'bust'. In Week 1 I went four for four counting healthy guys if you factor in less than 15 points as a bust, but if you call it under 10 points, I was 50% (point per reception league, 4 point QB TD, 10 rush yards, 20 reception yards). Let's see what Week 2 brings in terms of those solid players who will fall short. Week 1 showed us some huge injury upsets in Brady and Colston and gave us a preview of some struggling offenses. Week 2 of the NFL will be no different, but we can attempt to single out a few under performers. Here is my Week 2 shot.
QB Tom Brady, NE
By now everyone interested knows that Tom Brady's 2008-2009 campaign came to an early end Sunday vs. Kansas City when he suffered what is being reported as an ACL tear. This is the worst news many fantasy owners feared. Matt Cassel will take over in New England, but I am not convinced yet of his abilities. He must prove himself quickly to keep pace this season.
RB Darren McFadden, OAK
McFadden had an alright first NFL game as a rookie. He ran for 40+ yards and had one reception. However, Justin Fargas is not ready to surrender his starting role and McFadden will no doubt play in a RBBC scheme this season unless Fargas becomes unproductive or is injured. Oakland needs to get things moving after their huge loss to Denver in Week 1. Kansas City will be no slouch, so I do not expect much out of the Oakland offense until they prove otherwise.
RB Willis McGahee, BAL
Willis makes the list again this week. Last week McGahee did not play as a result of his knee not quite being ready for action. This week he is reported to be starting, but will definitely have his workload cut into by Ray Rice and Le'Ron McClain. I would anticipate McGahee gaining 40-50 yards if he plays and he could throw in a score if given a goal line carry. McGahee should be a solid start when he is fully recovered, but he has stated that he is nearing 100% and that tells me he is still a few weeks away from a full workload.
WR Marques Colston, NO
Marques Colston tore a ligament in his left thumb in Week 1. Reports state that he went into surgery to have the ligament repaired and will miss the next four to six weeks. Boy am I glad I picked up Eddie Royal. Hopefully Colston mends and rehabs quickly or we might not see him until after New Orleans' Week 9 bye. I picture Colston returning to action around Week 6 and playing a few games for reps before the bye week.
WR Chad Ochocinco, CIN
Ocho Cinco has his on-field issues as well as his jersey issues. Chad only caught 1 reception for 22 yards in Week 1 and that is not impressive no matter what your jersey says. In Week 2, Carson and his crew face a fairly stout Tennessee defense that allowed 215 yards and 1 TD through the air and intercepted Garrard twice. I think Cincinnati could struggle in Week 2 as well. Ocho Cinco could come up empty two weeks straight. Until Palmer and his receivers show they can get their act together, I think there are plenty of other receivers available.
