Week 13: Start 'Em
This is most likely the final week of the regular season in most of your fantasy leagues. So firstly, good luck to everyone who is still alive and fighting for a playoff start. My first piece of advice going into this final week is go with the line up that has gotten you this far. Something I failed to do last week when I sat McNabb and started Palmer due to what I thought was the better match-up and ended up losing by the difference between the 2 of them. Now if you need a starter due to injury, the players below should be able to help you out this week.
QB Vince Young, TEN
He's Back. Yup that's right, Vince Young is back and back in a big way. The Titans started the season 0-6 and so they turned to Vince Young, and he led them to 5 straight victories. Young has always been a dual threat with his arm and legs. Last week he engineered a 99 yard drive to win the game on the way to throwing for a career high 387 yards passing and the game winning touchdown. This week Young faces the Colts, and the Titans will need him to be effective in the passing game as well as the running game. If you're in need of some QB help this week, Young is your man.
RB Jamaal Charles, KC
Since taking over the starting running back job in Kansas City, most Jamal Charles fantasy owners have been debating each week if they should start him or not. Many weeks, he has been left on the bench for bigger name running backs, and most weeks fantasy owners were left wondering what would have happened had they started Charles. It's time to stop the debate, Charles is worthy of a starting spot no matter who the Chiefs are playing, because he is a dual threat running and receiving. Make sure to start Charles from here on in.
WR Jason Avant, PHI
Jason Avant is just one of the many young talented offensive weapons on the Eagles. Most weeks McNabb looks to DeSean Jackson or Jeremy Maclin or even Brent Celek before he gives Avant a look, but with Jackson dealing with concussion issues and possibly sitting out this week's match-up with the Atlanta Falcons, Avant might be in line for more looks. Avant's numbers have improved each season and after 11 games he has already tied or set career highs in all receiving categories. Watch to see if DeSean Jackson plays this week; if the Eagles decide to hold him out then make sure you get Avant into your starting line up.
WR Donnie Avery, STL
There were high hopes for Donnie Avery when the Rams drafted him last season, and he posted pretty solid numbers (53 receptions for 674 yards and 3 touchdowns in only 15 games) in his rookie season. Holding Avery back from being a top notch receiver has less to do with him and more to do with the lack of talent at the QB position and the OL. The good thing for Avery is that the Rams are so bad and they are always losing, meaning they spend most of the time trying to pass their way back into the game. Since coming back from the bye, Avery has posted very solid numbers (12 receptions for 180 yards and scored 3 touchdowns). Avery has become the #1 option when the Rams get into the red zone, giving him a chance to score week in and week out. Avery makes for a solid flex start this week.
WR Antonio Bryant, ---
Antonio Bryant was one of the biggest surprises of 2008 -- after sitting out the whole 2007 season due to a suspension -- but with question marks at QB, no one was sure what to expect from Bryant. Bryant got off to a very slow start and was dealing with injuries throughout the first 10 weeks of the season. He looks to be finally healthy and seems to be building a good rapport with rookie QB Josh Freeman. In week 12, Bryant had his best game of the season, 3 catches for 91 yards and a touchdown, and if he keeps working with Freeman, week 12 could be a preview of what's to come from these two. Start Bryant this week as he faces the Panthers.
