Colts Bring Back Dominic RhodesDon't overlook the significance of Dominic Rhodes returning to Indianapolis. While his one-year stint in Oakland was largely disappointing, remember that this is the man who, two years ago, produced nearly 900 yards in total offense for a Super Bowl champion Colts team. Last season, Joseph Addai rushed for 1,021 yards and 12 touchdowns. However, 704 of those yards came in the first half of the season. His greatest rushing output over the second half of the year was 72 yards against the Chiefs in Week 11. In six of the final seven outings (including the divisional round playoff loss to San Diego), Addai failed to surpass 50 yards on the ground. This all speaks to the value of a two-back rotation in Indy. Rhodes has proven his merit in this role and brings a veteran's experience and understanding of the system. The fact that he only signed for one year means Bill Polian and the powers that be can now evaluate former Michigan Wolverine Mike Hart without having to rely on the sixth-round rookie. That's a luxury the Colts were not afforded a year ago. Rhodes should not feel secure, however. Hart is a gritty player who was battle-tested in the Big Ten. And last season's backup, Kenton Keith, proved adequate at times, albeit more in the run than pass game. We have seen veterans before who return to their original team only to find that they'll never regain their original role.
