Quarterback Matt Moore to start for Panthers
If Jake Delhomme couldn't get benched due to poor performance, he will now get benched due to injury. Delhomme has a broken finger on his throwing hand, so Matt Moore is expected to start at quarterback for the Carolina Panthers on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Moore practiced with the Panthers' first team Wednesday while Delhomme watched from the sidelines. He broke the finger late in last week's loss to the Jets. There is no word as to when he will return. This will be Moore's first start since 2007. He has played in just two games this season, going 6-of-12 passing for 63 yards and an interception.
Fantasy Analysis:
It's sad that it took a messed up throwing hand for Delhomme to finally find the bench. Did head coach John Fox not see his 18 interceptions this season? Anyway, Moore has a very nice match-up in week 13 against the Bucs' hapless pass defense, but with the playoff spots on the line (or with the playoffs possibly starting this week), you don't want to trust Matt Moore. This note is big news for Steve Smith. Moore may not be the next Tom Brady, but he can't be any worse than Delhomme, right? I think Smith will get a lot of targets and really, I'm not worried about the backup quarterback throwing to him. I think Smith is going to have a very nice game this Sunday.
