Fred Taylor practices for first time in nine weeks
New England Patriots running back Fred Taylor practiced Friday, his first practice since undergoing ankle surgery on Oct. 8. Taylor, who hurt the ankle on his final fourth-quarter carry against the Ravens on Oct. 4, has missed the team's past seven games. Since then, Laurence Maroney has taken over as the Pats' No. 1 running back. He has scored eight touchdowns in the past seven games. Taylor, who was listed as questionable Friday, is still unlikely to play this Sunday against the Dolphins in Miami.
Fantasy Analysis:
Considering that many fantasy leagues are either entering or are one week away from their playoffs, this is a very interesting development. Taylor is probably not going to play this week, but I could definitely see him returning in time for a tasty home game against the Carolina Panthers on Dec. 13. With Sammy Morris now back from injury and Kevin Faulk in on third downs, you have to wonder how Taylor's presence will change Maroney's value. He has been consistently productive since week six. But if Taylor returns, I could see him getting at least 10 carries per game. Head coach Bill Belichick and the Patriots had faith that Taylor would play again in 2009, and now they will want to see their faith rewarded. This is definitely something to watch going forward and I think it means a lot of bad scenarios for Maroney owners.
