Brian Brohm likely to start at quarterback for Bills
Every year, there are players that come out of nowhere to post stat lines that shake up the fantasy football community. Jerome Harrison did it last week for the Cleveland Browns. Could Brian Brohm be next? OK, sorry, but he will probably get the start for the Buffalo Bills this weekend in Atlanta.
Brohm is expected to get his first NFL start because starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and backup Trent Edwards both suffered ankle injuries in Sunday's 17-10 loss to the New England Patriots. Interim head coach Perry Fewell offered few details Monday on the severity of the injuries to Fitzpatrick and Edwards, but a source said Edwards suffered a high ankle sprain. Edwards is likely out for the rest of this season.
Fewell said recently that Brohm didn't know the offense well enough to run if effectively, but now the team may have no choice. Fitzpatrick was benched early in the fourth quarter on Sunday because he couldn't move the offense. Edwards came in, but he got hurt four plays later and got a cart ride to the locker room. Fitzpatrick returned for the next offensive series, but he was also injured on a first-down sack. Crutches rested in his locker on Monday.
Fantasy Analysis:
The Atlanta Falcons do not have a good pass defense, but you're not starting a rookie in week 16 in fantasy. Brohm does have some decent pedigree as a 2008 second-round pick of the Green Bay Packers. This move isn't going to make me change my feelings on Terrell Owens and Lee Evans for this week. I think Brohm will be able to get the ball to both of them. If you were planning on starting them anyway, go ahead. I do think that the move to the rookie means more carries for Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch.
