Charlie Frye to get another start for Raiders
With valuable quarterbacks such as Peyton Manning, Philip Rivers and Tom Brady possibly seeing a half or less of playing time this week, many fantasy teams will be left searching for a replacement. For your consideration, the Oakland Raiders will be presenting Charlie Frye for another week. Frye will start at quarterback against the Baltimore Ravens in the season finale this Sunday. Despite throwing for a career-high 333 yards against the Cleveland Browns in week 16, Frye threw three interceptions -- including two inside the red zone -- and no touchdowns. But head coach Tom Cable will go back to Frye because of the production despite the mistakes.
Fantasy Analysis:
Cable inferred Monday that if someone other than JaMarcus Russell was behind center for the season's first half, the Raiders would have had a serious shot at the playoffs. Whether that's true or not (it's not), it just goes to show that there was no way Cable was going to give Russell another start. So, if the decision came down to Frye or J.P. Losman, that's not very difficult. You would still have to be pretty desperate to give Frye a spot in your starting lineup, but the odds are good that he will at least play the entire game with his first-string offense against the Ravens. You won't be able to say that about Rivers or Manning. And yes, if I had no further options, I would probably start Charlie Frye over Peyton Manning this week.
