Drew Brees will be Saints' No. 3 QB on Sunday
Peter King is one of the most reputable sources when it comes to NFL news. And tonight, he is reporting a bombshell for fantasy football owners of New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees. King posted on his Twitter account that Brees will be the team's No. 3 quarterback on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. Brees will be listed behind probable stater Mark Brunell and Chase Daniel. How does he know this? Head coach Sean Payton told him so. According to King, Payton said Brees is healthy, but he doesn't want to risk Brees against Julius Peppers and the Panthers' pass rush.
Fantasy Analysis:
Um, wow. This is quite a different tone from the one we heard earlier in the week from Payton. He said his team was going to play to win. He said that he was going to approach this game as if the team had to win to get into the playoffs. He said that his team couldn't afford to rest after losing its past two games, but apparently Brees is an exception. We already got news today that Pierre Thomas had been ruled out because of a rib injury. And now Brees is the emergency quarterback? This is a code red. I am now aborting on all Saints this week. If Brees is going to sit, you can bet that means Marques Colston and Robert Meachem won't see hardly any playing time either. If you want to go pick up Lynell Hamilton or Brunell, go ahead. But just know that they will be working with the Saints' second-team offense. And lastly, use this news as a reason to never again join a league which requires you to hold your championship in week 17.
