Arizona Cardinals' starting quarterback to be decided

When Kurt Warner retired in January, Matt Leinart was unofficially named the Arizona Cardinals' starting quarterback. But credit head coach Ken Whisenhunt, he isn't making anything official. He is going to have the still-young and still-unproven NFL quarterback show that he deserves to start. Whisenhunt said in a Tuesday radio interview that the Cardinals would sign a quarterback to compete with Leinart for the starting spot. Whisenhunt said he has a "great deal" of confidence in Leinart, but he said he won't just hand the job over to Leinart until he "goes to three Pro Bowls" and the Super Bowl, as Kurt Warner did. There were rumors on Tuesday that the Cardinals will consider bringing in recently cut quarterback Derek Anderson to push Leinart.

Fantasy Analysis:
I think this is a great idea because, really, what has Leinart shown in this league that states he deserves to be a starter just because the guy above him on the depth chart retired? Whisenhunt wants competition and I think only good can come from that. Granted, the pool of available QBs is very shallow and maybe none of them will be as good as Leinart, but Leinart has thrown more interceptions than turnovers and has a career completion percentage less than 60 percent. He shouldn't be given anything. Thus, we'll likely have another QB battle to watch during training camp. No matter who wins, he will be a QB outside of fantasy's top 20.
