Ted Ginn Jr. traded to 49ers

Wide receiver Ted Ginn @CCM_Theodo Jr. just never worked out with the Dolphins. This former first-round pick will have to resurrect his career with the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers acquired Ginn on Friday for a fifth-round selection in this year's draft. The ninth pick from the 2007 draft became expendable when the Dolphins traded for Brandon Marshall earlier in the week. Ginn never became the receiver that the Dolphins expected him to be. His hands cost him a lot of yards and he never scored more than two receiving touchdowns in any of his three seasons with Miami. His career year came in 2008 when he accumulated 56 catches for 790 receiving yards.

Fantasy Analysis:

You can now see how much Pittsburgh wanted to get rid of Santonio Holmes. They accepted as much value for him as the Dolphins did for Ginn. I actually like this trade for San Francisco. Maybe Ginn will never be a big fantasy factor, but with Michael Crabtree @KingCrab15 and Vernon Davis drawing a lot of defensive attention, Ginn could develop into a nice slot receiver. He will battle Josh Morgan, who is expected to be the team's second starting wide receiver, and Jason Hill for targets. If Ginn can improve his catching ability, he might break out as a decent option in deeper leagues. But his most important role with the 49ers will come as a kick returner.
