Seahawks running back competition is 'wide open'

Julius Jones, Justin Forsett @JForsett, Leon Washington @Leon_Washington, Quinton Ganther and Louis Rankin. Those are the running backs on the Seattle Seahawks' current 80-man roster. And when the regular season arrives, one of the will have to start. But right now, head coach Pete Carroll says he is leaving competition for the job "wide open" while also saying that Jones and Forsett are the top two. "There's no reason to call it. Julius has done everything he needs to do to represent. He's done a beautiful job so far. Justin continues to do real well, too. I love the way he's showing out here. Those guys are certainly in the one-two spots. Whoever is first, it doesn't matter to me right now. I can't tell and I don't care. Right now we're just playing football." With the release of LenDale White, the Seahawks could certainly use a power back. Carroll said that trading for disgruntled Buffalo Bills RB Marshawn Lynch "could happen", but also insinuated that someone already in Seahawks camp could fill that role.

Fantasy Analysis:

Washington is still not practicing as he continues to recover from 2009's gruesome leg injury. So, as we've pretty much expected now, the Seahawks will decide between Jones and Forsett to be their starter. I like Forsett more, but neither back can take on a lot of carries and I bet that this won't be the last time -- either before or during the season -- when there is mystery surrounding the identity of the Seahawks' first-string running back. I'm going to try to stay away from this situation in fantasy.
