Rookie RB Ben Tate fits Texans' mold

After Texans rookie RB Ben Tate @BenTateRB came into OTAs with a little bit of a hamstring, which kept him out for a couple of weeks, he really impressed Texans QB Matt Schaub with how he was still really into his playbook, into the meetings, and getting mental reps on the practice field while he was still injured. He expressed even more positive things about Tate in a recent radio interview. "He came in and understood his roles and responsibilities so that's very encouraging because they all can run," said Schaub. "But at this level it's about catching the ball out of the backfield, it's pass protection, it's understanding the bigger picture and all (our running backs) do that, but I think Ben fits our mold and it's going to be exciting once they put the pads on in training camp to see what they can do." He also talked about how much speed Tate has and how fast he is, along with the power style of running that he brings to the Texans.

Fantasy Analysis:

The Texans have found themselves a powerful running back in Tate who has the ability to convert short yardage opportunities. Tate will definitely deliver the toughness that the Texans desperately lacked last season. He will lower his shoulder and take on defenders in the hole. When he does this, he will not be easy to take down either. However, he is not just a big, powerful running back, but instead he also has great straight line speed. The knock on Tate is that he is not creative or elusive in the open field, which is the reason why he will be best suited as a short yardage and goal line runner. Even with all these great qualities, he's still currently third on the depth chart behind Arian Foster and Steve Slaton. Tate needs to continue to prove himself in order to get a chance at an expanded role.
