Cautious Panthers put Jonathan Stewart on PUP list
Carolina Panthers runningback Jonathan Stewart will start training camp on the active PUP list because of his heel. He will be eligible to come off at any time. It appears that Carolina is simply being cautious, since statements of his being nearly 100% have been milling about. Add to the rumors, DraftSharks reported that in NFL Network's Michael Lombardi 7/18 report that he was in fact 100%. Jonathan sat out all the teams' OTA's after undergoing Achilles surgery in January, removing bone spurs that were pressing into his Achilles tendon. Stewart's heel has bothered him the past two seasons to the point he was not able to practice during the week. Stewart explains "I was anxious to get it done. The pain was just annoying, and I needed to get it done."
Jonathan joined the Panthers in 2008. He stands 5'11" and is listed at 230 pounds. Stewart was born on March 21, 1987 and attended Oregon College. Stewart signed a five year contract with the Panthers in July of 2008 worth $10.8 million guaranteed.
Fantasy Analysis:
I won't worry about Stewart putting up similar stats to 2009, unless he starts missing preseason action. It seems Jonathan will be at his best since entering the NFL, this 2010 season. I am very anxious to see this happen, and the numbers he can put up may very well challenge the top 5 runningbacks. Though, he should comfortably be ranked in the top 10 to 15. I expect Stewart to compile more stats this year than DeAngelo Williams. These two stud runners are arguably the best duo runningbacks in the NFL.
