Bengals' Cedric Benson to see fewer carries

After spending part of the week ignorantly complaining about how he wasn't getting enough carries, Cincinnati Bengals running back Cedric Benson @Cedric_Benson will now see a drop in his workload, according to head coach Marvin Lewis "Some days he'll get some carries, some days he may not," Lewis said about Benson after Sunday's win at Carolina. "... We're going to play 16 games, and hopefully play 16 games with Cedric. Bernard (Scott) is going to carry the football this year more than he did last year. Cedric is going to have less carries at the end of the year. But hopefully he's going to have 16 games where he carries the football and on into whatever is after that." Benson, who currently ranks fifth in the NFL in running back carries with 65, has run for just 202 yards and is without a 100-yard effort. He's on pace for about 350 carries, which would be a career high. Scott, a smaller, faster running back, has carried the ball 13 times this season. He had 74 carries in 13 games last year.

Fantasy Analysis:

Scott was drafted as one of the top pure backups during the summer as many fantasy players expected him to eat into Benson's playing time more and more this season. That seems to be taking shape now. He should be owned in all 12-team leagues and could be flex-worthy against poor defenses. Still, I wouldn't worry too much about Benson's value. Yes, he has not been as good as in 2009 and I don't think that's going to change. But he'll still get his touches. He is still the top back in Cincy's rotation and he has scored three touchdowns in as many games. He's a good bet for double-digit scores this season. With better matchups on the horizon, think of him as a decent No. 2 RB.
