Report: Panthers' DeAngelo Williams out, hoping to play in week 10

According to team sources, the Gaston Gazette is reporting that Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams @DeAngeloRB will not play Sunday versus the New Orleans Saints. Williams hasn't practiced since suffering a foot injury late in an Oct. 24 game versus San Francisco. Williams is reportedly hoping to play next week at Tampa Bay. While this report has not been confirmed by the team, it would be Williams' second consecutive game missed due to injury. Jonathan Stewart @Jonathanstewar1 is expected to handle the load out of the Panthers' backfield again.

Fantasy Analysis:

Everyone would like to upgrade Stewart's stock for this week and recommend him in shallow leagues. But the fact is this running game isn't getting it done, thanks in large part to a poorly performing offensive line. Williams and Stewart each ran for more than 1,000 yards last season; they'll be fortunate to reach 600 with how their seasons have unfolded so far. Stewart should have had a very nice game last week in St. Louis, but he could muster just 30 yards on 14 carries. In the past two weeks, Stewart has gained just 59 yards on 28 carries. So while the Saints' rush defense has been fairly giving -- it has allowed six rushing touchdowns this year -- it's difficult to rank Stewart higher than a top-20 RB for week nine.
