UPDATE: Texans QB Matt Leinart likely out for season with broken collarbone

Update: Texans head coach Gary Kubiak confirmed this afternoon that Matt Leinart @MattLeinartQB will require season-ending surgery to fix his left collarbone. T.J. Yates @TJ_Yates will be the team's starting quarterback going forward.

--------

Well, that was quick. Matt Leinart's return to being an NFL starter lasted less than a half on Sunday. That's because he reportedly broke his left collarbone in the second quarter. He left the game at that time and spent the rest of it on the sidelines with his left arm in a sling, watching T.J. Yates man the offense. Leinart said after the game that there's a "pretty strong" chance he doesn't play again this season. Leinart completed 10 of 13 passes for 57 yards and a touchdown. Yates completed 8 of 15 passes for 70 yards.

Fantasy Analysis:

Expect an update on this story later today when the nature of the injury is confirmed by the team. Leinart was the perfect representaton of a game manager and was his typical dink-and-dunk self. He targeted Andre Johnson @johnson80 only once; he targeted Arian Foster @ArianFoster seven times. Now the Texans have T.J. Yates and Kellen Clemens as the only healthy QBs on their roster. There's news today that the Dolphins will release Sage Rosenfels so that he can sign with Houston. Brodie Croyle? Jeff Garcia? Brett Fave??? OK, probably not, but the Texans' QB depth chart is in a world of hurt (pun). Right now, you keep rolling with Foster and Ben Tate, no matter who the QB is. But owners of Andre Johnson -- myself being one -- have to be freaking out a little today. He was targeted just three times in this game. Maybe my proclamation that he'll remain a top-12 WR won't come true, but you keep playing him and hope for a turnaround.
