With his high-ankle sprain still keeping him out of practice all week, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson will miss his second consecutive game Sunday against the Denver Broncos. Toby Gerhart will once again get the start. In his third career start last week, Gerhart ran 17 times for 44 yards and a touchdown. He added two catches for 19 yards.
Fantasy Analysis:
It's not an awful matchup for Gerhart. Statistically, it's easier than what he faced last week against the Atlanta Falcons. The Broncos have been playing better defense lately, but they still give up a lot of yards on the ground -- they gave up 184 rushing yards to San Diego running backs last week. However, the Broncos have allowed just one rushing score to a RB this season. And with Gerhart, that's basically what you are banking on. If he doesn't fall into the end zone, he's not going to give you much production. He's more of a flex option than an RB2 for me this week.
The Vikings hope Peterson can return in week 14 when they face the Detroit Lions. At least he did some jogging on the ankle this week, and he did say yesterday that the soreness in his ankle is subsiding.
