As expected, the New Orleans Saints have franchise-tagged quarterback Drew Brees
. They did so on Saturday. The Saints gave Brees the exclusive-rights tag, meaning that no other team can even talk to him. With the tag, Brees will make between $15 million and $16 million next season. Brees was named the league's Offensive Player of the Year after putting up a record 5,746 passing yards with 47 total touchdowns.
Fantasy Analysis:
The Saints' inabilty to sign Brees to a long-term deal makes it more difficult for them to hold on to free agents and valuable weapons, Marques Colston and Robert Meachem. Obviously, losses there would have an effect on Brees' fantasy value, but as of right now, Brees is an easy first round-pick and no worse that second in fantasy quarterback rankings behind Aaron Rodgers.
