RB Joseph Addai signs with Patriots

Running back Joseph Addai has become a part of the NFL's most crowded backfield. Addai, who turned 29 just a few days ago, agreed to a deal on Saturday with the New England Patriots. Terms of his contract have yet to be disclosed. Addai will probably vie for carries with Stevan Ridley @StevanRidley, Shane Vereen @ShaneVereen34 and Danny Woodhead @danny__woodhead. After topping 1,000 rushing yards in his first two years in the league, Addai's numbers have dropped thanks in large part to assorted leg injuries. He has missed a total of 17 regular-season games over the past four seasons while with the Colts. In 2011, he gained just 433 yards on 118 carries with one touchdown.

Fantasy Analysis:

Although he's still under 30, Addai's production has resembled that of a RB who is near the end of the line. Joining the Patriots' group will probably do wonders for Addai personally. He won't be depended upon to have a huge carry count; the popular thinking is that Ridley will get most of the work while Addai, Vereen and Woodhead come in on third downs. Given how the Pats love to move their running backs in and out on a whim, and given Addai's recent production and injury concners, he probably won't have much fantasy value.
