We knew Jake Ballard
would be a long shot to play this season. A couple of months ago, the Giants said he would at least miss the first half of the 2012 campaign. On Monday, he failed his pre-minicamp physical, ending his season. The Giants then released Ballard, but both parties believe they will be reunited once the tight end clears waivers.
"I'm on the road to recovery," Ballard said on Monday via Twitter. "And I believe I'll be in a Giants uniform in '13." He is trying to recover from a Super Bowl injury that left him with a torn ACL and required microfracture surgery.
Fantasy Analysis:
So there's that -- Ballard is out for the year. Unless fourth-round rookie Adrien Robinson
can get around the learning curve quickly, it looks like Martellus Bennett will get the large majority of playing time at tight end for the defending champs.
