NFL hands Lions RB Mikel Leshoure 2-game suspension

Detroit Lions running back Mikel Leshoure @MikelLeShoure25 will be kept off the field for the first couple of weeks this season, and the wait has nothing to do with his repaired Achilles tendon. As expected, Leshoure has been suspended by the league for two games after two marijuana-related arrests during the offseason. Leshoure, who missed all of the 2011 season with a ruptured Achilles, will be eligible to return in week 3. Kevin Smith @kevinsmith34, Keiland Williams @kwill35 and Joique Bell @JoiqueBell are the leading candidates to begin the year as Jahvid Best @J4hvidbest's backup.

Fantasy Analysis:

For fantasy purposes, the bigger concern with Leshoure is how strong he'll be after the injury. Achiles tendon tears can have a significant lasting effect on running backs. But if he's healthy, he's a going to get a good number of touchdowns at the very least. And I don't know what the carry split will be between him and Best, but you have to figure that as much as Leshoure won't be overwhelmed early on, the Lions will be cautious with their oft-concussed, smaller runner. I think Leshoure is a nice sleeper this year. This suspension actually helps drive down his stock, meaning you can get him later on in your draft and get that much more value out of him when he's a solid flex option during the middle of the year.
