Dashon Goldson
and the San Francisco 49ers failed to reach an agreement on a multi-year contract before the deadline on Monday and Goldson is prepared to play the season under the franchise tag. He will make $6.2 million dollars this season, as the 49ers franchise player. Goldson commented last week that he'd play on the one-year franchise tag rather than boycott the season without a multi-year deal.
Fantasy Analysis:
Goldson is a hit or miss defensive back that keeps fantasy owners guessing from week-to-week. He is a capable run stopping safety and is a weekly threat to post double-digit tackles, as he did last season in week two against the Eagles. However, he is just as likely to post a 3 tackle game and is wildly inconsistent. After a very impressive 2009 season, in which he posted 99 tackles, 3 sacks and 4 interceptions, he has seen a decline in production in each of the following seasons. The defensive back position has plenty of inconsistent players and Goldson does not stand out on the talented San Francisco defense. Goldson is a fringe fantasy option at the defensive back position for 2012. He can be had late in drafts and offers low-end #3/DB value.
