Arizona WR Andre Roberts
is expected to start the season as the No. 2 receiver opposite Larry Fitzgerald
. Roberts held that position for the entire 2011 season, posting 51 receptions for 586 yards and two TDs. Coaches think he's developed into a good player and that his numbers from last year were more a reflection of problems at quarterback.
Fantasy Analysis:
Roberts showed a significant jump in production from his rookie season of 2010 to the statistics he amassed last season for the Cardinals. He caught 27 more balls and increased his yardage total by 379 yards while being targeted 49 more times. Rookie Michael Floyd will look to challenge Roberts for the No. 2 spot on the Cardinals depth chart but his knowledge of the system should make Roberts the favorite to keep his position. The quarterback position continues to be a problem in the desert and that effects the fantasy potential of Roberts in 2012. He may be moved into the slot position and quarterback Kevin Kolb
has utilized WR Early Doucet, who manned the slot in 2011, extensively when he's been under center. Roberts is a candidate for a surprising fantasy season, should he establish a rapport with Kolb and excel at his natural slot position. Roberts is a solid WR #3 for fantasy purposes with low-end #2 upside should Kolb finally emerge as a viable NFL quarterback.
