The Philadelphia Eagles are interested in having TE Visanthe Shiancoe and TE Jeremy Shockey visit with the team in order to gauge their fit within the Eagles locker room. The Eagles appear to be "seriously considering" picking up Jeremy Shockey and although he has detractors and may not be a solid fit for Philadelphia, some believe he could be a cheaper option than Visanthe Shiancoe who recently turned down a one year deal with the Seattle Seahawks for $1.2 million.
Fantasy Analysis:
Even though it seems like Philadelphia might be taking a chance on a splashy name, the Eagles still have TE Brent Celek
who is coming off of a season with nearly 100 targets, over 800 receiving yards, and 5 touchdowns. Celek is nearly 4 years younger than both Shockey and Shiancoe and appears to have developed quite a rapport with QB Michael Vick. Shockey and Shiancoe are both on the far back end of their careers with the hope of one more season hinging on their assets of NFL experience and large body frames. Even if the Eagles sign one of the two TEs, look for them to be nothing more than a supplement to Celek because neither TE has been terribly productive over the last couple of seasons. In addition, Shockey has a history of battling the injury bug. Both TEs have zero fantasy value; however, Celek on the other hand is at least worthy of a pick somewhere between rounds 11 and 14 in redraft leagues.
