We're one day into Arizona Cardinals training camp, and we already have some Beanie Wells injury news. It's not exactly new as it's related to the right knee injury that required surgery in January. Wells has been placed on the active/PUP list due to lingering soreness in that knee.
Wells said a few days post-op that it was "just a scope." But he then said in May that it was a "little more complicated" than that. Wells was held out of all offseason workouts. He thought he'd be ready to go for training camp, but that didn't turn out. However, head coach Kent Whisenhunt said Tuesday that he doesn't expect Wells to be on the PUP list for an extended period of time. He can be activated at any point during camp.
Fantasy Analysis:
Yes, because Beanie Wells just isn't Beanie Wells without an injury. I'm not sure anybody outside of the Cardinals organization knows exactly what was wrong with Wells' knee, and what kind of procedure he underwent seven months ago. We'll keep tabs on his status. But it just reminds us yet again that a red flag will always be attached to Wells' fantasy stock. Running back Ryan Williams
is trying to come back after tearing a patellar tendon 11 months ago. While he will be eased into training camp, his name didn't join Beanie's on the PUP list.
