With the New Orleans Saints set to open their 2012 NFL training camp on July 26, 2012, Saints interim head coach Joe Vitt is talking about limiting RB Mark Ingram
at the start of camp as he recovers from offseason knee surgery. Veterans and rookies will report to Metairie, Louisiana, on Thursday as New Orleans attempts to move past the bounty scandal and get ready for the season ahead.
Fantasy Analysis:
After rushing for 474 yards and five touchdowns in his rookie season, more is expected out of this former Alabama star during his sophomore season. While Ingram tweeted back in May that his knee scope was "as minor as it gets" we can't see the Saints pushing him very hard during the early workouts. This is especially true when you consider that this is the second surgery in three years on Ingram's left knee.
We'll be watching the Saints running back crew during training camp as the backfield is crowded in New Orleans. RB Darren Sproles
, RB Pierre Thomas
, and RB Chris Ivory all join Ingram looking for touches in the Bayou. At the present time, I have Sproles as the top backfield pick in New Orleans and will be employing a "wait and see" attitude with the rest of this group.
