Lions RB Jahvid Best put on PUP

Jahvid Best @J4hvidbest of the Detroit Lions has been placed on the PUP list and will not be participating with the Detroit Lions in the very near future. Remember, he can be activated from this list at any time, but many speculate that the Lions will play it safe with Best. The reason for his inactivity and PUP placement is of course due to the concussions that Best has dealt with since becoming a pro.

Fantasy Analysis:

Zeus- From a fantasy perspective I go nowhere near Best. He played in 6 games last year and I would expect the same or less this year. Best is a strong option if healthy, but all previous Best owners will tell you that the reward is not worth the risk. Now if everyone in your league is scared and you can get Best in the 13th-14th round, then yes of course chance it because you are not risking anything. I think that Best being out definitely opens up the door for both Kevin Smith and Mikel Leshoure. Both backs are talented and can contribute as flex options in your fantasy league. Remember while drafting, Leshoure got caught with the hippie lettuce one too many times and will be suspended for the first two weeks. I fully expect for Smith to open up the season as the RB1 in Detroit. He was strong in the games he played last year averaging 4.9 yards per carry and catching about 4 balls a game so remember that in PPR formats.

So in summary- My short view is to run away from Best, and pick and choose when you pluck Smith or Leshoure late in the draft or off the waiver wire. No need to draft high here unless Megatron transforms some of his powers to the backs in Detroit.

Thayse- Personally I would stay away from any Detroit RB's if you can. They throw the ball a ton and have a full blown committee underway. I'd rather see the dust settle in the first few games and then grab the guy who emerges if you can get him on waiver. In regards to Best specifically, if you are in a deep league with a PPR format I would consider grabbing him at some point late rounds. Just understand if he's not getting the receptions you need to cut your losses early and move on.
