Titans RB Chris Johnson expects fewer receptions in 2012

One of the few silver linings in Chris Johnson @ChrisJohnson28's underwhelming 2011 season was that he set a career high with 57 catches. That shouldn't change this season with the Titans shifting to more of a passing offense this year, right?
Well, offensive coordinator Chris Palmer wants to keep the throws vertical, which will probably mean fewer checkdowns for Johnson. And he knows it.
"I think I was a little bit more involved in the pass offense with [former offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger]," Johnson said. "But with the situation that we've got here, since I got here we got a lot of playmakers on this offense. ... I feel like it's not a bad thing that I probably don't get as many catches as I usually do."

Fantasy Analysis:

So maybe Johnson's reception total will drop to about 35-40. That's a total guess, but it wouldn't be disastrous. We'll never see 2,000 yards out of him again, so we've got to give him a different nickname. But I do expect a rebound year from Johnson. Something similar or better than the stats he put up in 2010 -- more than 1,600 total yards, 12 touchdowns -- wouldn't surprise me. I think he's a fine, low-risk pick in the second half of the first round.

I think that going vertical means there will actually be still a good number of check down throws. If nobody is open, Chris will be open for an easy 5-7 yard check down.
