Drawing high praise from head coach Mike Smith during training camp, second year Falcons RB Jacquizz Rodgers
appears ready to encroach on RB Micheal Turner's touches this season. Smith recently said the Rodgers "has the skill set to play on all three downs." The Atlanta coaching staff also likes the way he is picking up his pass-protection duties.
Fantasy Analysis:
While we aren't ready to throw in the towel on Turner just yet, Rodgers pass catching ability is a real plus moving forward. Remember the Warrick Dunn and T.J. Ducket days back in mid 2000's? A similar situation could very well repeat itself in Atlanta this season. Similar in build to Dunn, and better than Duckett at pass catching, Rodgers deserves respect as a handcuff for Turner at minimum.
Not overly fast, but surprisingly quick, Rodgers had 78 touches, for 393 total yards and two touchdowns in his rookie season out of Oregon State. Though not a threat as starter just yet, JR will see a rise in production during the 2012 NFL season. Watch the owner who picks up Turner and if they are asleep at the wheel, Rodgers is certainly worth a flier in the later rounds on Draft Day.
