All of that buzz surrounding San Diego Chargers wide receiver Eddie Royal
is going to quiet down for a bit. Royal will be out of action for up to two weeks because of a groin injury. Royal, who has been one of the Chargers' most talked about offensive players this offseason, will be looking to make an impact out of the slot and return to his rookie-year form of 2008.
Fantasy Analysis:
Sports Illustrated's Peter King has Royal down for 75 catches this season, for what it's worth. Head coach Norv Turner can't stop heaping praise upon Royal. San Diego really hasn't had a consistently good No. 3 WR in a long time. Maybe that changes this year. However, with Vincent Brown
expected to take another step forward, with Antonio Gates healthy (for now), and with Malcom Floyd and new addition Robert Meachem slated to man the outside, I'm not sure if Royal will get enough targets to be worthwhile in fantasy. You know Ryan Mathews will end up with a healthy amount of catches, too. So, Royal may be looking great in the summer. But he might get squeezed in the fall. He's a last-round lottery ticket in deep leagues.
