Update: False alarm, and good news for the Jets. The team just announced that Santonio Holmes
' X-rays came back negative. So, no break. Instead, he's been diagnosed with bruised ribs and is considered day-to-day.
------------------------------
While nothing has been confirmed yet, it sure sounds like New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes suffered a broken rib during Saturday's intrasquad scrimmage.
Said head coach Rex Ryan: "I heard he might have broke a rib or something. ... I don't know if Santonio did break a rib or not, but the fact that it was sticking out ... is probably an indicator. But again, I'm sure he'll be fine. We'll have to check him out later. Other that that, he had a good day."
According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the injury occurred when Holmes was "drilled" by Antonio Cromartie on a 7-yard reception.
Fantasy Analysis:
Update: With this latest news of just bruised ribs for Holmes, there should be no change in his fantasy value. He shouldn't be out for too long.
------------------------------
It's possible that Rex was just referring to the rib pointing and not actually breaking through the skin. Regardless, one broken rib would probably mean at least a week or two off for Holmes. Just what that thin Jets receiving corps needs. Second-round rookie Stephen Hill
is probably now the team's top WR who's not on the mend. Of course, Cromartie would have you believe that he is the second-best option.
