On Monday, for the first time since the first day of 49ers training camp, wide receiver Michael Crabtree
appeared on a practice field with his teammates. Crabtree missed seven full practices after injuring his right calf on July 27.
Fantasy Analysis:
That means Crabtree has a chance of playing in his first NFL exhibition game. It probably won't come this week, but soon enough. And it took until only his fourth season to do it. Well done.
Crabtree led the Niners in receptions and receiving yards last season, but I think it's inevitable that his numbers will come down this season considering the team has added Mario Manningham and Randy Moss. And San Fran still has all of those running backs. And Vernon Davis. And Crabtree is still depending on Alex Smith to get him the ball. I understand that Crabtree is absolutely no more than a low-end WR3, but in that area of the draft, I think there are WRs who, one, carry a little more upside and, two, aren't playing in such a large crowd of proven NFL receivers. Greg Little and Austin Collie are a couple of names that come to mind.
