Cardinals RB Beanie Wells off PUP list

Cardinals running back Beanie Wells has taken a step forward in his rehab after offseason knee surgery. He was taken off the active/PUP list on Tuesday and participated in the team's walkthrough earlier in the day. Wells' activation means he won't start the season on the PUP list, which would have forced him to miss the first six weeks. He won't play in the Cardinals' next preseason game Friday, but Wells is tentatively scheduled to suit up for the Cardinals' Aug. 17 game against the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Analysis:

Of course, we still don't exactly know what was done to Beanie's knee in the operating room, but this is some good news. I look forward to seeing what he can do on the field and how he performs in the battle for reps with Ryan Williams @lilsweetness34, who is also working his way up to 100 percent after missing all of 2011 with a torn patellar tendon. How that duel plays out over the final two weeks of camp will give us a much idea on when to draft either guy. Right now, Wells is ranked as the No. 23 RB, according to FFToolbox. Williams is No. 45. If I had to choose one right now, I think I would go with Williams. Yes, he is coming off of a catastrophic injury for running backs. But he's received good reviews in camp and is obviously the better value. Given Wells' extensive injury history, Williams will probably be starting at some point this season.
