QB Robert Griffin III will play between 12-20 plays in first preseason game

Washington Redskins rookie phenom QB Robert Griffin III @RGIII will be limited to between 12 and 20 plays in his preseaon opener against the Buffalo Bills Thursday night. Sources indicate that head coach Mike Shanahan threw the entire playbook at him at first with the hope of gradually scaling it back. According to statements made by coach Shanahan, "He knows the playbook... He's had the playbook down for a while... It's about reacting on the field..."

Fantasy Analysis:

This appears to be a rather typical progression for a starting QB in the league during preseason contact. There is no reason to play a starting player (who cost roughly 4 draft picks to obtain) more than that in the first preseason game. The second game will probably be something closer to a quarter and a half. Coach Mike Shanahan indicated he might play half the game for the third game and rest during the fourth and final preseason game. I would recommend tempering expectations especially with a suspect offensive line that needs to overcome injury. Griffin III should be a great QB2 option with QB1 upside midway through the NFL season.
