Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee today. The team classified the procedure as "routine" and, more importantly, "successful."
Head coach Pat Shurmur said, "We anticipate that Trent will make a speedy recovery, and we are hopeful that he will be ready for our Week 1 game.
That game will arrive Sept. 9 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Montario Hardesty
will spend the majority of the time as Cleveland's first-string running back for as long as Richardson is sidelined.
Fantasy Analysis:
I'd say it's a little early to regard Richardson's surgery a success. They can say it was successful in that everything went as plan in the OR. Fantasy owners should consider it a success if Richardson is back to full strength by the regular season. He's expected to be out for at least two weeks, but I think it will be a close call, with uncertainty remaining into September. Richardson is still worth a second-round pick, but Hardesty has been getting some nice reviews in camp and should be thought of as a popular handcuff.
