There was a lot of buzz Friday that wide receiver Dwayne Bowe
was going to sign his franchise tender and report to the Chiefs later that day. And then ... nothing happened. Bowe is still not with his team; his $9.515 million tender remains unsigned. On Saturday, ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted that it's probably going to stay that way into September.
"Despite any Dwayne Bowe sightings and reported signings, he is still unlikely to sign franchise tender until before start of regular season," Schefter wrote.
Fantasy Analysis:
And I have to trust Schefter more than the reports from a local TV station. Bowe seems unwilling to cave. He has the talent to take over games, but Bowe is missing critical time to learn the Chiefs' new offense and work with quarterback Matt Cassel, no matter how awful Cassel can be. Bowe should still play 16 games for Kansas City this season, but it seems like a given that he will get off to a slow start. I'm not a big Bowe supporter -- he's just so inconsistent. But because of his immense talent, I can take a few bad outings early from Bowe and still have confidence that he'll be a fine WR2.
