New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said Monday that he expected wide receiver Hakeem Nicks to come off the PUP list "soon." It took about 30 minutes for that to come true. Nicks passed a physical and was taken off the Physically Unable to Perform list. Nicks been out of action since breaking his right foot during May OTAs. Per league rules, he will not be able to practice in pads for three days. But the expectation right now is that he'll suit up and play in the Giants' Aug. 24 preseason game versus the Chicago Bears.
Everything seems to be right on schedule for Nicks. He said in a press release that he feels good and has had no setbacks. That Aug. 24 game is the Giants' third of the preseason. Third preseason games are usually as close as you're going to get to a meaningful game this month as many teams use it as a dress rehearsal, so I'll definitely be watching to see how Nicks runs. He has never been considered the most durable wideout -- he's had all sorts of knee, leg and feet ailments in the NFL and has yet to make it through a full 16-game season. But when he's on the field, Nicks an easy top-10 WR. FFToolbox has him ranked No. 6 at the position.
