Big day for Green Bay Packers news. Along with Greg Jennings, tight end Jermichael Finley
returned to the practice field Sunday. He had missed the last couple of weeks, including both preseason games, due to a quadriceps strain. The team hopes he'll be able to play in its third preseason game, Thursday against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaking of a couple of weeks, that's how long head coach Mike McCarthy thinks running back James Starks
will be sidelined because of turf toe. He said so to the Packers' official web site on Sunday.
Fantasy Analysis:
Finley remains an injury concern because of his past, but he should be fine for Week 1 and once again considered a tight end with top-5 upside.
On Tuesday's FFToolbox podcast, I disagreed with host Ben Standig and fellow guest George Bissell about Cedric Benson
's fantasy value. I openly wondered how much Ced had left in the tank after carrying the ball almost 900 times over the past three years. I also didn't think he would be worth your time because he's probably going to split carries with Starks. But now, Starks looks like a 50-50 bet to play in Week 1, and turf toe injuries take a long time to fully heal. It's something that could hamper Starks for the entire season, possibly leading to more carries for Benson. Alex Green
will probably replace either runner on third downs, but I am starting to like Benson a little more after hearing this news. At the very least, he looks like the Packers' clear-cut starter come Sept. 9.
