Vikings RB Adrian Peterson won't play in preseason

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier announced Tuesday that running back Adrian Peterson @AdrianPeterson will not play until Week 1 of the regular season at the earliest.
"We just feel like more time with [Peterson] in practice for some of the things that we're doing and the progression of getting him ready for the seson is the right thing to do," Fraizer told 1500ESPN.com "...There are a few more things that we'd like to be able to do in a controlled setting rather than a game situation."
However, Frazier didn't say it's a lock that Peterson will be playing on Sept. 9 versus the Jaguars.
"That doesn't guarantee that he'll be ready for Jacksonville," Frazier said of Peterson. "... Hopefully there won't be any setbacks. There haven't been up to this point. He's continued to progress. Everything has gone better than can be expected up to this point."

Fantasy Analysis:

As much as I want to see players participate in the preseason to get used to contact again and not get rusty, this is a smart move. Keep Peterson out of harm's way, do what you can with him at team facilities, then work him back slowly once the season begins. I think it's a guarantee that Toby Gerhart @Toby_Gerhart will handle the majority of the carries for at least the first few games. It's still unwise for people to be spending a second-round pick on a running back who I don't believe is going to give you much for the month of September. The absolute best-case scenario is that the Adrian Peterson we're used to seeing finally arrives, with a big workload and all, by Week 4. Worst-case scenario is that he doesn't regain his previous burst for the entire season. I think the latter scenario is more likely.
