The New Orleans Saints will finish the preseason without running back Darren Sproles
. Interim head coach Joe Vitt told the New Orleans Times-Picayune that he is 'fine' with not seeing Sproles on the field until the start of the regular season. Sproles has been bothered by a knee injury for the past couple of weeks. He has been able to return to limited practice, but the Saints want to make sure he's really ready for when the games actually count.
"The important thing is for [Sproles] to get ready for that Week 1 game with him," offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael said. "But he's going to get a chance to get back here in practice before that game. So we're good."
Fantasy Analysis:
Sproles has continued to say that if this were the regular season, he would be able to play. The Saints have classified the knee injury as "minor." I'm not too worried right now. Especially since Sproles is not a volume player -- his 173 touches on offense last season were a career high -- he shouldn't be too affected by this knee injury in September. If he is, I guess that means more playing time for Pierre Thomas
. But I'm cool with Sproles as a low-end RB2.
