The New Orleans Saints have decided who will fill the role of interim head coach when Joe Vitt begins to serve his six-game suspension Sept. 2. It will be offensive line coach Aaron Kromer, a source tells ProFootballTalk.com. The source also said that Kromer will act as the Saints' head coach for their final two preseason games while Vitt runs the day-to-day operations during training camp. Vitt was suspended for his part in the team's bounty scandal. Kromer, 45, will also retain his duties as offensive line coach and running game coordinator.
Fantasy Analysis:
Nothing like an interim to the interim. This means that defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo can concentrate solely on the defense and, more importantly for fantasy purposes, offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael can concentrate on running the offense. The Saints actually produced more yards and averaged more points per game after Sean Payton broke his leg during a game last October and handed the play-calling duties over to Carmichael. Kromer's promotion should have no effect on the Saints' big-name skill players.
