Cowboys feel TE Jason Witten is 50-50 for Week 1

According to FOX Sports' Matt Mosley, the Dallas Cowboys think tight end Jason Witten @JasonWitten has a '50-50' shot to play Sept. 5 at the New York Giants. Witten has been trying to be as inactive as possible to let his lacerated spleen heal. He found out yesterday that the injury will not require surgery, improving the chances that he'll be active on opening night.

Fantasy Analysis:

I can't wait for these preseason games to get going tonight and tomorrow, because it feels like there's news about only three or four players right now, and Witten is one of them. For what it is worth, Mosley tweeted that he "wouldn't bet" on Witten playing in that first game. I tend to agree. Given that Witten has been told to completely shut it down for 7-10 days and has yet to be cleared for any sort of workouts, he'll need time to work back into shape. And by the time he gets going again, he'll have just a week or so to prepare himself for the Giants. The Cowboys can do without him for one game. But I'll also restate that I think Witten, who is dropping fast in drafts, is still a good pick as long as he makes it back by Week 2.
