Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith has been on crutches the past couple of days after being diagnosed with a foot infection. He will not play in Sunday's preseason game versus the New York Jets, and head coach Ron Rivera told the Charlotte Observer on Friday that Smith wouldn't play this weekend even if we were in the regular season. Smith is being treated with antibiotics, and team doctors will continue to monior the swelling.
Fantasy Analysis:
A freakish injury. I haven't read anything about how this developed other than it started last weekend. I doubt Smith will see another snap in the preseason, but that's not a concern to me. It's too early to say if he's in jeopardy of missing Week 1 at Tampa Bay. I would continue to draft him as you normally would, but check to see how he is progressing next week.
